Our beloved brother and uncle, friend and mentor, Daniel Vincent White, died Friday, December 11, 2009 in the presence of his family at his marsh-side home by the river in Wilmington, NC. Dan knew that his time with us would end too soon and with vigor and good spirit, he lived the last two years of his life doing things his way in his wonderful style. Classical music, fabulous food, travel, a spiritual life, and family and friends were his passion. Through Dan, we became better people. Many of us can say with heartfelt thanks that because of Dan we are the people we are today. He showed us the way.
Daniel White was born in the Bronx, New York, January 7, 1938, to Eleanor and D. Vincent White. He graduated from Bronx High School of Science and obtained a degree from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Dan worked in food service management for his entire career. He particularly loved the time he spent feeding students at the University of Hawaii, and the University of California. Dan also worked in Saudi Arabia and retired from this career after many years with the school system of Kingston, New York.
Dan is survived by his elegant feline companion, Nice Cat, his sister Shelia and her husband Thomas, his brother Thomas and his wife Hedi; and his sister Eleanor and her husband Richard; his nieces and nephews, Deidre and her husband Arnie; Chris and his wife Janet; Meg and her husband Steve; Jonathon, Timothy, Daniel and Elizabeth and her husband Chip; his great niece and nephew Elizabeth, and Loren and his wife Kari; and his great, great nephews, Andrew and Ayden. Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his nephew, John.
A memorial service will be held 4:00 PM, Monday, December 14, 2009 at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church, 3736 Carolina Beach Road.
