Darrel Lee Schuurman, 66, of Leland, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2012 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

He was the son of Mrs. Jean Cnossen of Michigan and the late Kenneth Schuurman.

Darrel is survived by his wife, Jeri S. Schuurman of the home: one brother, Darris Schuurman of Michigan: his children, Jodi White and husband Todd and Chris Schuurman and wife, Wendy, all of Michigan; Rod Wickenheiser and wife, Kim and Andrea Piehl and husband, Wade of Michigan; Bryan Wickenheiser and wife, Dana of Georgia and Brad Wickenheiser of Tennessee and 12 wonderful grandchildren.

Darrel attended Missouri State University where he played football for the Bears . He retired from Groose Pointe Farms in Michigan as the Superintendent of Water and Sewer. After retirement he enjoyed playing golf, riding motorcycles and especially boating.

He was a communicate of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wilmington where a Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, November 21 at 11:00am, with visitation to be held one hour prior to the service at 10:00am.

In lieu flowers, memorials may be sent to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 12 N.6th Street, Wilmington, NC 28401 or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454 Alexandria, Va. 22312.

    Would like to express my sympathies Darrel's family members. I was really surprised to hear of his passing! Darrel and I. We're two of the original 5 operators at the City of Wyoming, Michigan water treatment plant back in 1965 . We shared a lot of great experiences Together.golfing, deer hunting up north in michigan, fishing trip to Canada and lots of laughers at the water treatment plant. sorry to hear of his death he was a fun guy to be with!! He did well in the water Treatment Field
