David Harold Abston, age 68, of Wilmington, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2015 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter.

He was born on January 28, 1947 and raised in Rockwood TN., the son of William Joseph Abston and Ruby Mae Brasel Abston.

David served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corp and was discharged with honor and distinction after 11 years service and 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. David was a Purple Heart recipient.

Following his Service with the Marines he worked for Corning Inc. in Wilmington for many years.

Together with his parents Bill and Ruby Abston, David is predeceased by his brothers Earl and Huey Abston and sisters Louise Scott, Ruth Mitchell, Mildred Meadows and Alice (Billie) Guffey.

David is survived by his wife of 46 years Luretha B. Abston, daughter Lynn Abston Holden and husband Michael, son James David Abston and wife Keli, grandchildren Jessica Lyons and husband Josh, Katie Abston, Justin Abston and Faith Abston and great grandchild Julia Lyons.

He is also survived by his brothers J.R. Abston of Guntersville, AL. and Frank Abston of Harriman, TN. and sister Brenda (Sam) Turner of Rockwood, TN.

A Service to Celebrate David’s Life will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 18, 2015 at the Lake Forest Baptist Church 1626 Lake Branch Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Lower Cape Fear Hospice for their compassion and support during David’s stay with them.
