David Lindsey Atkinson, 47, of Wilmington, NC, passed away Sunday February 12, 2012 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

David was born on November 24, 1964 to the late Dorothy Jones Hayes. He was also preceded in death by his brothers William, Bert (Charlie), and Howard Hayes all formerly of Raeford, NC.

David was a unique person, born Hearing Impaired, he learned to communicate by sign language and graduated from Morganton School for the Deaf in Morganton, NC. He was an employee at K & W Cafeteria for the past 18 years, and was loved by all who knew him.

David is survived by his father James Atkinson (Gudrun) of Spring Hill, Florida, sister Shirley H. Honeycutt (Lloyd), brother James Hayes (Tami), Aunt Louise (Ken), uncle R.B. Jones, and many nieces and nephews. He especially adored his great niece and nephew Katelyn and Michael Gieschen.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 6:00PM at the Seaside Chapel, Visitation to follow.

Burial will be Friday, February 17, 2012 at 12:00 Noon at Raeford Cemetery, Raeford, NC.

The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at NHRMC and the staff at Clear Message Interpreting Services.
