David Nelson Everett, age 55 of Wilmington passed away on Tuesday February 7, 2017.
He was born in Wilmington, NC on October 25, 1961.
David graduated from New Hanover High School Class of 1980. He continued his education at UNC-Wilmington graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1984, his Master of Education degree in 1988. Later earned a Bachelor of Arts and Masters degree in Special Education. Included was his Certificate in Elementary Education and Gifted Children. He was a member of the National Board of Certified Educators and the National Board of Certified Teachers – Middle Childhood and Generalist. His many awards included Brunswick County Teacher of the Year 2000-2001 and 2001-2002. He was recognized as Teacher of the Year at Supply Elementary School 1995 and 1996; Teacher of the Week at Belville Elementary School November 17, 2001; and was recognized as Outstanding Teacher of the Year- May 5, 2001 at Belville Elementary School. He received Numerous Young Authors Awards and retired from teaching June 21, 2015 from Belville Elementary School where taught Fifth Grade students. He was well respected by his peers and loved by his many students.
David is survived by his mother, Mamie Parker Everett of Wilmington; brother A.C. Everett and wife Sandra of Wilmington and sister, Emily Leese of Apex, NC; nephews, Scott, Ross, Jason, and Kyle; special friend Jerry Rivenbark. He was preceded in death by his father, Augustus Codington Everett Sr.
Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held 3 pm Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Cape Fear Presbyterian Church, 2606 Newkirk Ave., Wilmington 28412, officiated by Reverend Jonathan Watson and Reverend Dr. Patricia Parker Slomanski. A reception will follow the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
