David Vernon Nelson, Jr, 76 of Castle Hayne passed away Saturday, September, 25, 2010.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Suzanna Smith.

David is survived by his wife of 15 years Rhonda Nelson, his children David Nelson, Paige Nelson, Fletcher Nelson and wife Lorrie, his children by marriage Jamie Stitz, Kelly Gambler and husband Neal, Karen Johnson and husband Will, grandchildren Sarah and Allison Nelson, Spencer Waters, Ava Stitz, Lindsay and Ben Johnson, Kinley Gambler, brother Joseph T. Nelson, a special niece Jeannine and husband Pat, nephews Tom, Joe Ben, Randy, Greg and David.

Dave enjoyed family time, boating, golfing and camping. Dave had a special love for his church family, Calvary Baptist Church in Wilmington where family and friends will gather at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, September 29, 2010 to celebrate his life.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington NC 28401.

    Dear David, Paige and Fletcher, It is with sadness to see your Father's notice in the paper this morning. Having lost both of my parents, I share in your grief. I know that you do not remember me but, I worked with your Father at Belk Beery back in the early 70's. I remember all three of you as we would go out on your Father's boat: "THUMPER". Fortunately time is a healer. I enjoyed his company and will always remember the three of you. Sam
