David Wayne Dickson, age 80, of Wilmington, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2020, at his home.
He was born in Schenectady, NY on January 15, 1940, the son of John Dickson and Virginia Shafer Dickson.
David worked as an Animal Health supervisor in the Toxicology Department at Sanofi-Synthelabo. After a 30-year career he retired in
2000 to Wilmington North Carolina. Because of David, Wilmington became the go to vacation location for family and friends for many years.
David enjoyed many various activities; biking, golfing, reading, fishing and going to the beach. He volunteered at Fort Fisher where he gave over 2000 hours; earning the volunteer of the year award in 2008 and 2011. Outside of work and his love of all animals, David gained the nickname of “Doctor Dave”.
David served his country with honor and distinction in the United States Navy from 1958 till 1960.
He is survived by sister Diane Sulti (John), sons David Dickson (Mary), Brian Dickson (Patricia), and grandchildren Calvin, Julia and Ana, many nieces
and nephews and a special friend of over fifty years Maryanne Harris.
The family will receive friends at a Visitation to be held from 2:00 pm till 4:00 PM on Wednesday, September 30, 2020, at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel.
In recognition of David’s honorable and faithful service to his country the United States Navy Honor Guard will render Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations made to the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, 900 Loggerhead Rd, Kure Beach, NC 28449, in loving memory of David would be greatly appreciated.
