Deanna Maureen Callender, age 62, of Castle Hayne, passed away on Wednesday, January 18, 2017, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

She was born in Detroit, MI on March 6, 1954, the daughter of Anthony Elzerman and Dorothy Burlison Elzerman.

Deanna worked as a Respiratory Therapist in the Healthcare business.

She is survived by her daughter Nicole and husband Chris Grindstaff of Hampstead NC (grandkids Jin & Jade), son Kirk and wife Ashley Callender of Grand Blanc, MI (grandkids Hailey, Kayla, Noah & Liam), sister Debbie and husband Bob Harris of Lake Orion, MI and nieces and nephews.

    To all of Deanna's family, I am so sorry for your loss. Deanna was one of my best friends and I will miss her terribly. We have known each other for 60+ years and maintained our friendship throughout, even when she moved out of state. We've been through so many milestones together- marriages, divorces, and deaths of parents. We also shared many fun times together- our entire childhood on Panama and beyond. Our families were very close. I will miss her so much. Nikki, thank you for allowing me to say goodbye. You have been the best daughter. She was so blessed to have you. I love your mom as a sister.
