Memorial Gifts & Donations

Denise Ellen Flynn-Rosthauser, loving wife, sister, aunt, cousin and friend to many, passed away peacefully in Wilmington, NC on January 30, 2022. She was a fierce and understated warrior in her battle against cancer.

Born December 7, 1958 in Summit, NJ, she grew up in Chatham, NJ. In June 2013 she married the love of her life, (Robert) Scott Rosthauser in Wilmington, NC. Before moving to NC, she lived in Pittsburgh PA, Sea Bright NJ, Los Angeles CA, and Lafayette CO. She and Scott shared their life and home with rescue dogs and enjoyed their volunteer work at the Wrightsville Beach Sea Turtle Project. Denise loved to travel, embracing any opportunity to see the world. She cherished time with family and her many friends. She lived her life fully, generously, and with joy, always seeing the good and fun in any situation. Her kindness, generous heart, ready smile, sweet goodness, quiet strength and positive attitude brightened the world and the lives of all who knew her.

Preceded in death by her parents, James and Carol (Young) Flynn, Denise is survived by her loving husband Scott, sisters Diane and Elaine (Julf Helsingius), brothers James (Jane Hardman Flynn) and John (Laura), nieces Molly and Megan, nephews Connor, Brian and Danny Sister’s in law Peg Rosthauser, Sue Foster (Tom Foster), and Carole Rosthauser, and nephews, Kris, Todd, Josh, Cameron, Graham, Joe, Tom, Jon and Sean, and niece Jaimee, and great nephews and nieces, aunts and many cousins.

The world is a less beautiful place without her in it. Heaven has gained a star but the night sky has lost a bright light that we will all carry with us.

In lieu of flower the family would prefer memorial donations may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the ASPCA.

The family will be holding a Celebration of Life in the near future.

    Monica Dodge says:
Dear Flynn family and Scott. I was heartbroken to hear this news. Denise was a wonderful friend of mine. I had more fun and laughs together with her than with anyone else I can think of. Just a few weeks ago I was telling my sister about the houses Denise and I used to rent on LBI back in college and how those times were among some of the best we had. Denise must have been on my mind. I was so sad to hear she was sick and I wasn't aware. My heart goes out to all of you. She truly was a joy to be around and she will be sorely missed. Love, Monica

I met Denise when we worked together in Culver City, CA. She was the kindest, sweetest person I’ve ever known and introduced my husband, Dan, and I to people in her circle that I am so happy to say have remained friends to this day. “Tour de Strand” will always remind me of my dear “Flynnie”. My heart broke into pieces with the news and I sincerely wish for strength to the absolute love of her life, Scott, as well as her family, during this very difficult time. Peace and light, my dear friend. Peace, love and light.

Denise was one of the most warm and kind people I’ve known, and she made everyone feel a little happier just by being in the room. I’ll miss her. My sincere condolences to Scott, the Flynns and all who are feeling this loss.
