Memorial Gifts & Donations

Dennis Evans, 72, resident of Rocky Point, NC passed away on September 10, 2011 in Wilmington, NC. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends that Dennis had touched in some small way throughout his long, memorable life. He definitely had a way of making an impression on people with his unique personality.

Dennis was born on November 17, 1938 in Shreveport, Louisiana to Jack and Ella Evans. He was raised in Rayville, Louisiana and graduated high school early to join the Air Force when he was 16 years old. He served 20 years. He served in the Vietnam war from 1967-1968. Dennis was a man determined to experience a world outside of his small hometown. He travelled extensively, living in many countries abroad.

Mr. Evans moved with his family back to Tokyo in 1972, where he retired from the military and started a successful car dealership business servicing military personnel. Eventually, he opted to pursue a lifelong dream of becoming a pilot, and successfully obtained his license as a flight examiner. He travelled around the world during these years, including Egypt, Istanbul, Africa, Germany, and France.

He returned back to the US about 10 years ago to be close to his family. He was an avid golfer, reader, LSU and Saints fan, and a master teller of bad jokes. He was Senior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of Japan having been a Mason for over 25 years.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Masako; daughters, Susan and Denise, and his mother Ella Evans, sister, Susan Tarver, and brother, Malcolm Evans, as well as his grandsons, Evan and Nicholas.

A memorial service, with full military honors, will be held at 3 PM, Saturday, September 17th, 2011 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. Pastor Mark Tippett.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, 1301 Pennsylvania Ave., Suite 800, Washington, DC 20004

    James (Smokey) Stover says:
Masako, Susan, and Denise. I learned of Denny's passing from my daughter. I worked for Denny in his Toyota Military Sales Dealership in Fussa, Japan 1984-1987. I lost contact with him after that time but always expected to meet up with him again. Has a good man and a dear friend and I will miss him very much. Please accept my sincere sympathy for your loss.
