Derek Bryan Sender (aka ‘Pookie’), beloved son of Jayne (Winandy) Sender and Dennis S. Sender; stepson of Pam Sender; brother of Jeremy, Danielle, Jason, Deanna, and Scott; uncle to Autumn Sender; nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Winandy and Dr. and Mrs. Ira Sender, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2020 in Wilmington, NC. He was 39 years old.

Derek loved gymnastics, soccer, wrestling, the Chicago Cubs, classic cars and his best canine buddy, Keiki. His passing leaves a painful void in the hearts of all those who love him.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations in Derek’s memory to be made to the (ASPCA) through www.tmcfunding.com.

Services for immediate family will be held in Wilmington, but we encourage all who knew and cared for him to please celebrate his life and memory.

    We met in high school and became fast friends! He was always someone that would do almost anything for a friend! He had a smile and laugh that would light up the room! I haven’t seen him in years and just found him on social media either in the week! I was excited to reconnect with him and I’m so sad that he is gone. My heart is broken and my thoughts and prayers go out for his family.

    Trained Derek at Freeman landscaping from day one. He was a very genuine guy. He was very honest and was easy to talk to. Can't believe he is gone. He loved his dog and I will never forget how good of a person he was. Wishing his family and friends my most deepest condolences. Going to miss you man.
