Diane McLawhorn age 69 of Wilmington passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017 at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

She was born on February 28, 1947. Her parents were Zell Norris Phillips and Earlene Gladson Phillips. Diane grew up in Pitt County, NC

Diane was a Licensed Optician and worked at VisionWorks in Wilmington for many years. She was a member of Grace Point Community Church in Leland. She had a passion for animals, cooking, entertaining, gardening and spending time with her friends.

Diane is survived by her 3 cats, PK, Zoey, Jackson many friends and professional associates who she loved very much.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society at 2405 N 23rd ST. Wilmington, NC 28405.

A memorial Celebration of Life ceremony will be held 3:00 PM Sunday February 26, 2017 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. Friends will be received an hour prior to the service.

    I started working with Diane in 1984 at City Optical Laboratories when it was located on Vision Drive. There are 2 things that stand out in my mind about Diane. She kept a small portable heater plugged in and turned on at work and ate soup and crackers for lunch. I would often kid her about having the heater on and would sometimes ask her if she was really cold. She would just laugh and tell me to mind my own business. Enjoy those angel wings, my friend.

    I remember her smile more than anything. I didn't know her well but that smile...Oh my I can see it now! She was definitely a much loved lady from what I hear and see. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of her loved ones during this time.

    Diane was a great friend & second mom to all of us at VisionWorks. She loved to cook and we all enjoyed eating her delicious meals. She always had good advice for us, whether or not we wanted it. Loved her laugh & smile. Really going to miss this very special lady.
