Dimny Young

Dimny (Dee) Foreman Young, 91, of Wilmington, NC entered into God’s Presence, Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Trinity Grove, surrounded by her loving family.

Dee was first a child of God. She loved her Lord, her family, and her friends. She always wore a smile and had words of encouragement for those around her. She lit up the room just by being in it! She was a “collector!” She collected memories and held them in her heart. She collected words of wisdom she had read and wrote them down in her own handwriting to make them hers. She collected friends and happy times spent with them along life’s journey and stored them in her memories. She collected precious moments with her family and smiled each time she remembered them.

Dee was born in Allendale, SC on September 26, 1921, to the late Benjamin F. and Eunice J. Foreman. After completing the Allendale public schools, she attended Furman University from 1938 to 1940. In 1972 she graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a BA degree in Elementary Education. Dee taught in Charlotte Mecklenburg County from 1972 to 1982 when she retired. She was named “Teacher of the Year” in 1979. She served as president of the PTA of Chantilly Elementary School in 1955. She substituted in the Mecklenburg County schools for twenty years. She was a member of the Kappa Gamma Delta Retired Teachers Association. She belonged to book clubs in both Charlotte and Wilmington, NC. She volunteered in the Presbyterian Hospital gift shop in Charlotte. As a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Charlotte, she served on the alter guild, as a Sunday School teacher, a Stephen Minister, a Boy Scout leader, president of her circle, and on the visitation committee. She was a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church for the past eleven years where she was in the Spiritual Formation Group.

She was preceded in death by her adoring husband of 70 years, Ernie Young; her sister, Mary Young, and her grandson, Scott Young.

Surviving family members are her son, Buddy Young and wife, Joyce of Powhatan, VA; her daughter, Zan Bramley and son-in-law, Jerry of Wilmington, NC; grandson, Lee Young, and wife, Yvonne of Charlotte, NC; granddaughters, Kerry Lamb and husband Dale, and Shawn Macpherson and Billy Macpherson of Wilmington, NC; four great grandchildren, Quint Young, of Charlotte, NC, Rylie and Tanner Macpherson and Drew Lamb of Wilmington, NC; her brother-in-law, Marion Young, of Allendale, SC; a niece and three nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held 12 Noon on Saturday March 2,2013 at St. Matthews Lutheran church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Emily Wade Family Assistance Fund or the Endowment Fund of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, 612 S. College Rd., Wilmington, NC 28403.

The family would like to thank Trinity Grove Nursing Home for their compassion and loving care. Dee often commented, “I just love this place with all its caring “angels!”

    Ana says:
I am so sorry for your loss. The Bible provides comfort during these difficult times. Revelation 21:3,4...states "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away". Very soon now, we will never experience losing our loved ones in death.

Dear Zan, Buddy, and family! The comments about your Mom were so perfect. I will always remember her as the eternal cheerleader for all of you and her friends, and especially her Lord. The bridge table is getting full in heaven as I'm sure all those wonderful friends are celebrating together. You are all in my thoughts and prayers. Fondly - Betty Brauch Hilliard

I met Miss Dee at Autumn Care. She was on the same hallway with my parents. She always had a smile on her face and a kind word for everybody. We enjoyed having her in our card class and she will truly be missed. I know the angels are fluttering with delight to see Miss Dee. Jeria
