Dolores Rae King Croom 79 years of age, passed away Tuesday, May 28,2019 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

“Deedle” was born August 17, 1939 in Wilmington, N.C., to the late Albert Ray and Pearl Lee King. She was the oldest of five children, one preceded her in death. Dolores is survived by her childhood sweetheart and husband of 60 years, Louis R. Croom, Sr. Also left to cherish her memory are three children, Louis R. Croom, Jr., Robert Clark Croom, and Julie Croom Tweedy, four grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Dolores loved the Lord Jesus and spending time with her family and friends. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and friend to everyone she met.

A visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 10am Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens.

    I don’t know this sweet lady personally but I know her daughter Julie. I also know hearts are broken in the ending of her life here. However, heaven is waiting with open arms. My deepest sympathy to her husband, children, and grandchildren.

    My thoughts and prayers for this family. Delores worked with me at Belk and there will never be a sweeter person I will ever meet that compares to Delores. She was always such a sweet person with an uplifting word for you no matter what you were going through. She loved her Lord and she loved her family with all her heart.. Precious memories I will always have from a special lady.

    Deedle and I sat on her front porch just last week and talked for a while remembering the last couple of decades of being neighbors and friends. She was a jewel in the neighborhood and will be missed by all of us. God blessed us with her presence and our love is with all of the family.

    I did not meet Mrs. Croom but her daughter, Julie, has been a very good friend for many years. Julie shared many memories with meof her mother. I know she must have been a great lady and a great mom to have raised such a wonderful daughter. My sincerest condolences to Mrs. Croom’s husband, her children, grandchildren, and all extended family.

    I remember the first time I met Delores and her husband Louis. My husband and I had just rented the house directly across the street from their on house and we had driven all day from Florida and were so exhausted we had decided just to pull out the beds from the Uhaul and go to bed. Well Louis was in his yard and within minutes he had his family and neighbors over helping to unload truck and from that moment we were all instant friends! The women on the block once decided to get together to lose weight and so on Wednesdays we would take turns and meet at each other's houses for our weigh ins. The funny thing was after we would weigh in then someone would serve brownies or some sweet treat. I loved those days and I shall forever remember how sweet and beautiful Delores was including her husband and kids. I became a Girl Scout leader and Julie was in my troop and she is such a beautiful person like her mother. I am sorry I am not able to be there to pay my respect but know you are all in my heart and prayers.
