Don Carcich, 90, passed away peacefully in his home in Leland, North Carolina on April 26, 2019. Don was a man of his time, a product of the greatest generation, a true American in every sense. He had the courage to face his fears and take on challenges, which enabled him to leave the island of Unije and the war-torn region he grew up in on the Adriatic, with just his Sister, Palmira, cross the ocean and start a new life, serve in the US Army during the Korean War and give birth to an American family and start a business; an epic measure of true success. Later in life, he met his lovely wife, Catrina, who shared his courage and joy in knowing what it means to truly be human, sing, dance and love right up until his final moments. His joie de vive should inspire us all to be better human beings. His measure of success, which he imparted to his extended family, was to value education for personal and professional growth and appreciate freedom and independence.
Don was survived by his wife, Catrina of 26 years and their extended family of children, grandchildren and great grandchild. Don also leaves many loving relatives and friends, who will miss his irrepressible smile and sense of humor and made it a pleasure to be in his company.
Celebration of Life ceremony will be held 2 pm Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel led by Life Celebrant Linda Register. Don’s urn will be placed at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, NC 12 noon Friday, May 3, 2019 with Military Honors.
