Donald “Donnie” Lane Ward of Wilmington, NC was called home to be with the Lord on February 1, 2015. His precious life was tragically ended and taken by another.

Donnie was born to Douglas and Sally Ward (now Sally Horne) on January 18, 1964 in Wilmington, NC.

A professional painter by trade. Donnie was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed the beach, gardening and most anything pertaining to the outdoors. He was also a very creative and talented carpenter.

Donnie is joined in death by his father Douglas Fred Ward, twin brother Ronnie Ward, brother Bobby Ward, sister Debbie Jean Ward and sister Patricia Ward. All of Wilmington, NC.

He is survived by his children. Daughter Angelia Malone and husband Kenneth of Keyser, W.V., daughter Elizabeth Martinez and husband Francisco of Wilmington, N.C., two sons Donnie Jr and Matthew of North Carolina, mother Sally Horne and stepfather Harold of Wilmington N.C. Brother Mike Ward and wife Debbie Lynn of Hampstead N.C., brother Ricky Ward of Hampstead, N.C, brother Chris Ward of N.C. and Glen Ward of N.C. Accompanied by several grand children, nieces, nephews and extended family.

Donnie was a free spirit. He was an extremely caring person with a huge heart. His laughter could fill a room, and his smile could brighten your worst of days. He was tragically taken from his family and will ALWAYS be dearly loved and greatly missed. Our only solace is knowing he is forever watching over each and every one of us from above.

A service to celebrate Donnie’s life will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, February 8, 2015 at Blake’s Chapel Advent Christian Church, 88 Blakes Chapel Road, Hampstead, NC 28443

As our families grew together from a very young age I remember you guys being there in my life for as far back as my memory goes. We we always family. Because there were so many of the ward boys and we three sistes at times we were friends,boyfriend/girlfriend mad at each other an inspiration to each other a bad example for each other the older girls mainly Debbie was even a mother/sister figure for us however Trish took her turn. I remember at one time Donnie was dating two different girls named Amy one of course was my sister the other not. It work out well for him for a while until by chance they met. Then it was trouble for him lol...they arranged for one of the to go on a date and for the other to conviently show. Needless to say it didn't work out well for Donnie to say the least. That change nothing though we remained family and friends and even though life took us in different directions we will always remain that. Much love goes out to the Ward family. The day Will come when we will all be together again

Donnie I have put off signing..I guess I wasn't sure how to put my feelings into words. You were my first love. The day we met is still clear as day.So nice looking with a devilish grin. We had our ups and downs but still maintained a special bond all these years. You gave me the most beautiful daughter in the world. For that I am eternally grateful. She is a mix of both of us. But I can see soo much of you in her. That day when we were sitting on the canal fishing I promised to always watch over her. I will keep that promise till I die. I will always love you.
