Donald Karsten Plath, 76, of Hampstead, NC, died Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Woodbury Wellness Center in Hampstead, NC
Mr. Plath was born in Boone Co., Iowa on April 22, 1935, the son of the late Otto and Marie Randall Plath. He was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Ann Plath and also a brother, Harold Plath.
He retired from the Winston-Salem Southbound Railway as an engineer for many years. He was a pilot in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed flying his private plane, was an avid golfer and was a excellent mechanic. He will be greatly missed by his close neighbors and friends and especially Wayne and Betty Fulp. Also, his canine friend , Jack who will miss his daily butterscotch candy. Also, the squirrels will have to get cashews from the other neighbors.
Surviving are his children, Noreen Jo Brickey, Nicholas John Plath, and Ann Marie Miller all of Winston-Salem, NC; five grandchildren, Haley and Karl Plath, Brittany Brickey, Allison and Corp Joseph Miller, USMC.
Donald’s wishes were that he not have a memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
In his final moments of his life, he wanted to bring to light that he thoroughly enjoyed the long and prosperous life that he led.
