Memorial Gifts & Donations

Donald Webster Powell, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2023, at the age of 80. He was born on November 23, 1942, in Eden, NC, to the late Robert “Spencer” Powell and late Catherine Webster Powell. Donald’s passing comes exactly five years after the loss of his beloved wife, Itaska “Gail” Rutledge Powell.

Donald lived a full and vibrant life. He had a deep love for hunting and spent countless hours pursuing his passion. Watching sports, particularly his favorite teams, the Tar Heels and Washington Redskins, brought him great joy. Whether cheering on his teams or spending time with his hunting buddies, Donald embraced every moment with enthusiasm and camaraderie. Above all, his most treasured moments were those spent with his family.

Donald’s educational journey led him to Appalachian Teachers College, where he gained knowledge and skills that would shape his future endeavors. Following his studies, he served in Vietnam, bravely serving his country in the Army and was awarded the Bronze Star for his exceptional valor.

Donald will be sorely missed by his loving son, Andrew “Andy” Spencer Powell, daughter in-law Kimberly “Nicole” Powell, and his adored grandson, Spencer “Brooks” Powell of Wilmington. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert “Bobby” Dale Powell of Reidsville and John “Rodney” Powell of Eden, who will cherish the memories they shared together.

A Celebration of Life service will be held in Donald’s honor on August 19th, 2023, at 2:00 PM at First Wesleyan Church, located at 607 Church St. in Eden, NC. Family and friends are invited to gather as we celebrate the remarkable life of Donald Webster Powell.
