Donato Joseph “Pops” Salvagno age 90 of Wilmington passed away Monday, August 7, 2023 at his home.

“Pops” was born in Manhattan, NY on November 29, 1932. His parents were Giuseppe Salvagno and Teresa Santora Salvagno.

“Pops” was a proud veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korean War, aboard the USS Bang, a Naval Submarine . He was a member of Living Word Full Gospel Fellowship Church in Winnabow, NC; a member of the Human Wall for Fallen Soldiers, the American Honor Guard, and the Patriot Guard Riders. He was always faithful to serve with his fellow veterans to honor the memory of countless fallen veterans by joining with these groups to remember and honor them at their Funerals and Memorial services in our area. He was always proud to stand with his comrades to form the US Flag Line at countless Funerals.

“Pops” is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Penney and life companion Ernest, and Robin Henry and husband Scott; grandchildren, Danielle Bashaw, Trevor Penney, Anthony Cooke, Shannon Cooke, and John Long; great grandchildren and extended family members. Remembered is his grandson Aaron Long who preceded him in passing.

Funeral services are planned at Living Word Full Gospel Fellowship in Winnabow, NC at 11 am Friday, August 11, 2023. The family and friends visitation will start at 10 am until the service time. His burial will be a Greenlawn Memorial Park
