Donna Estes Spiers, born January 30th, 1945 in Wake County, NC, passed away on May 29th, 2023 at the age of 78 in Hampstead, NC. After a courageous 20 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease, Donna passed peacefully surrounded by her loved ones.
Donna grew up in Wilmington, NC in Sunset Park and graduated from New Hanover High School in 1962. She then attended Wilmington College.
Donna was a beloved homemaker who dedicated her life to her family. She had a passion for redecorating her home with antique furniture that she refurbished herself and adored painting wildlife which adorned her walls. Donna also enjoyed tending to her beautiful garden by the Intracoastal Waterway, rescuing injured animals, snow skiing, golfing, and dancing to beach music. She also enjoyed spending time on her boat with her friends and family; and if they did not know how to water ski, she did everything to change that. Her infectious smile and caring nature will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Donna is survived by her devoted husband of 40 years, Conway H. Spiers; daughter, Neah Jo Farr; grandsons, Leonardo & Ludovico Zirilli; stepchildren, Paul Spiers (Rachel), David Spiers (Terri), Tracee Shannon Eason, and Steve Vaughan; sisters, Deann Tschantz (John) and Mechelle Gibbs (Kenny); nieces and nephews, Jay Tschantz (Martha), Alicia Snyder (Andrew), David Callahan (Shannon), Craig Freeman (Casi), Amber Baird, and Cameron Baird.
Donna was preceded in death by her father, Charles Edward Estes; mother, Rosalyn Estes; and sister, Terry Estes Freeman.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 10th, 2023 at 10:00am at Wrightsville United Methodist Church, immediately followed by a Reception in the Reception Hall. Donna’s legacy will live on through her loved ones and the memories they shared together. Rest peacefully, Donna.
In lieu of flowers, Donna’s family has asked that family and friends consider donating to the Patient Access Network (PAN) Foundation in her memory. This is a near and dear foundation that helped assist Donna, and helps assist others, with out-of-pocket costs for their prescribed medications and treatments needed for life threatening illnesses.
Donna’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare and to their wonderful neighbors, Ann and Alma, who lovingly helped care for her, allowing Donna to spend her final days on the Intracoastal Waterway that she loved so much.
