Donnie Spivey

Donnie Earl Spivey age 73 of Wilmington passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014.

He was born in Tabor City, NC on July 20, 1941 to Donnie Barden Spivey and Mary Louise Hardwick Spivey.

Donnie was a proud Navy Veteran serving from August 1959 to August 1963 on active duty, serving on board the USS Buck, USS Blue Back and USS Sperry, as well as a Navy Recruiter; and then joined the US Navy Reserve until his retirement in 1988. He worked at Bell South Telephone in Wilmington for 35 years until his retirement.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Barbara Moser Spivey; children, Michael Wayne Spivey, Wendy Langston (Danny), and Joel Spivey (Melissa); sister, Nancy Ray; grandchildren, Samantha Spivey, Jason Spivey, Donnie Spivey, Wyatt Spivey, Rebekah Anderson, and Jim Ton.

Celebration of Life ceremony will be held 12 noon Monday, October 27, 2014 at Scotts Hill Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Phil Ortego and Rev. Rob Strickland. Burial services will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park at 2 PM.

Family visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM Sunday at the home of Donnie’s daughter, Wendy, 6024 Nettle Circle, Wilmington, NC 28405.
