Dora Mae Smith Kannady 95, of Wilmington, died Friday Morning January 28, 2022, at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice LifeCare with her family at her side.
Dora was born on October 4, 1926, in Brunswick County, the daughter of the late Sicero and Bessie Hickman Smith. She was a lifelong member of Longwood Baptist Church. Preceding her in death are her husband Boyd Arch Kannady, grandchildren; Lyndsey Floyd, Patrick Tew and Richard Kannady.
Dora Mae loved talking (a lot), smiling, family, taking care of her yard, orange pineapple ice cream, nightly chats with her great friend Joyce, eating out with Linda, getting pampered by special friend Miss Linda, steamed oysters, fried spots, walking through Walmart, visits from family, car rides, Days of our Lives, singing the Billy Goat song to her grandkids and cooking good ole southern meals. She was loved and touched by all who knew her including her Cedar Ave kids.
Surviving are daughters Karen Floyd and husband Chris, Linda McArthur and husband Doug of Wilmington; sons Brent Kannady and wife Susan of Richmond, VA; John Kannady and wife Stephanie of Cumming, GA; Kenneth Kannady and wife Betty of Columbus, GA; and David Kannady and wife Lynda of Ellerslie, GA., ten grandchildren; Kimberly, David, Michael, Brent, Lori, Amanda, Ashley, Lauren, John and Pamela, nine great-grandchildren; JR, Travis, Sarah, Ryan, Adrian, Emma, Miguel, Margaret Mae and Claire.
Due to COVID and social distancing, a graveside funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 PM Monday, January 31, 2022, at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Reverend Dodd Mays will officiate the service.
The family suggests memorials be directed to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice 1414 Physicians Drive Wilmington, NC 28401; or to Shriners Hospital for Children.
