Memorial Gifts & Donations

Doris Kathleen Moore, lovingly known as “Duke” by her family and friends, went home to be with the Lord on November 19, 2013.

Doris was born in Johnstown, PA on May 3, 1933, to the late Roger McFadden and Kathleen “Little Mommy” McFadden. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Henry Moore. Doris spent fifteen years dedicated to the United States Postal Service before retiring and beginning a second career with the post office at UNCW. After twenty years with UNCW, she was once again able to enjoy her retirement by spending time with friends and family, reading her Kindle, talking on the phone with distant family, sneaking food to her dog Gizmo, and living life the way her favorite boys from Duck Dynasty did: happy, happy, happy!

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Jackson of Wilmington, and her sons, Michael Moore and wife, Renee of Rutland, VT, and Steven Moore and wife, Mary of Wilmington, along with four grandchildren, Lindsay, Darby, Nicole, and Shannon. Also surviving are her two sisters, Carol Harris and husband, Don of Wilmington, and Carolyn Grimes of Clearwater, FL.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11 AM on Monday, November 25, 2013, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church with Msgr. Stephen C. Worsley officiating.

Duke you will be missed! It won't be the same without you sitting at the kitchen table, sipping your tea and speaking your mind. I'm glad I got to spend a little time with you.

    Shannon Moore- Granddaughter says:
I'm one of the 4 grandchildren of "dukes" I use to always talk to her on the phone, and look forward to our myrtle beach family vacations. I will never forget her telling me when we would hang up the phone when I was a little girl " goodnight don't let the bed bugs bite" I will always hold her memories and her goofy laugh close to my heart. I use to live in VT, so only saw her once a year if that, But recently I moved down to wilmington and I'm so grateful I got to spend her last 2 months together. You are truly loved and Missed by your family. Give granddad a hug for all of us. Don't forget to look after all your loved ones. RIP <3
