Doris Louise Midgett, age 81, of Wilmington passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014 at her residence surrounded by family.

She was born January 1, 1933 in Wilmington, North Carolina the daughter of the late Norman Stuart and Thelma “Jackie” Revelle Stuart.

Doris loved being on the water and was a commercial fisher by trade. Her favorite pass times included clamming in the water ways of Sneads Ferry, painting figurines as gifts for others, fishing, bingo and puzzles.

She is preceded in death by husband, Fonnie Lee Davis, Sr.; husband, Joseph R. Midgett, Jr.; daughter, Fonda L. Johnson; brother, Norman Stuart, Jr.; and sister, Dorothy M. Stuart.

Surviving are her son, Fonnie Lee Davis Jr. of Orlando, FL; daughter, Verna D. Berarducci and husband Dan of Mebane, NC; seven grandchildren; eighteen great -grandchildren; and numerous other loving family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel.

A graveside Service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Yopp’s Meeting House Cemetery, Hwy 172/Sneads Ferry Rd near the intersection of Sneads Ferry Rd (SR 1515),Sneads Ferry, NC.

The family would like to thank the staff of Lower Cape Fear Hospice for the wonderful care of Doris, especially nurse Kay Ellen Simon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Caper Fear Hospice Foundation, 1404 Physicians Drive, Wilmington NC 28401.

    I am sorry for the loss of your dear Doris. During times like this our God gives each one of us a very real hope of actually enjoying life with our passed loved ones once again right here on this good earth. At John 5:28 and 29 Jesus himself tells us that those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out to a resurrection of life, similar to how he resurrected his friend Lazarus. Lazarus was resurrected back to life on earth. That is in harmony with God's original purpose for humans, to "fill the earth and subdue it". (Genesis 1:28) God's original purpose for humans has not changed. To see our passed loved ones again on a beautified earth is a hope few dare to dream about, much less firmly believe in.
