Gifts & Memorial Donations

Doris Ward Field, of Leland, passed away Monday, April 17, 2023.

She was born on September 26, 1930 in Wilmington, NC. She was the daughter of the late Henry A. and Katie B. Field. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Houston and Harry, also a sister, Katherine.

She is survived by a niece, Terrell Moore (Dwayne) and a nephew, Richard Field (Gail).

Doris graduated from Leland High School class of 1948, and graduated from UNC-Wilmington in 1975, majoring in History and Philosophy & Religion. She had an incredible memory and would often surprise people with the things she could remember. At times some someone would see her and say “you probably don’t remember me” and Doris would reply not only did she remember that person, she remembered their whole family.

She worked many places over the years, but her favorite was Hardee’s in Leland where she worked from 1998 to 2002. After she retired, she still walked there almost every day to visit with others, and enjoyed talking sports. Many times, people would see her walking and give her a ride home.

She was an inactive member of Woodburn Presbyterian Church in Leland, where in earlier years she sang in the choir. When I was a child, I remember her printing the church bulletins and cleaning the church.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Saturday April 29, 2023 at Wilmington Funeral and Cremation, Village Road chapel Leland, NC by Reverend Burt Vezina, II.

Their will be a time of visitation thirty minutes prior to the service at the funeral home.

I had the honor of calling Doris my aunt. We became very close after she lived with me for about 6mths. She was a wealth of information and enjoyed sharing her knowledge with people. We shared the mutual love for Tom Hanks and watched all of his movies and old sitcom. I loved to hear her stories and mostly, her laughter. I loved and will miss her very much.

I am so saddened by the loss of Miss Doris. Since my grandmothers passing she had become like a second mother to my mom (Gaylyn). She always made us laugh with her quick wit. She will be greatly missed, we loved her dearly. Rest peacefully Miss Doris ❤️

I will deeply miss my Miss Doris so much! We've known each other for a very long time , she would come and sit at the Diner and we would have our heart to heart talks. Miss Doris would be my brain for me when it came to my grandkids birthday's , I couldn't remember and she would! She was such a wonderful caring ,sweet lady! One day she told me I was the daughter she never had , I told her that she was just like my Mom, she was born the same month and year as my Mom! We would go to stores, and I ask her if she ever had eaten Kiwi, or Avocado she said no, so I surprised her with them and like them.I could go on and on about our journey! I will cherish our memories!I miss her dearly, R.I.P. My sweet Miss Doris 💜 To the family my condolences
