Dorothy (Dot) Gibbs Crouch Pierce, 86, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on February 14, 2016.
Dot was born November 18, 1929 to the late W. Ollis and Lottie Young Gibbs She grew up in Basset, VA and moved to Ayden, NC in 1965. In 2014 she moved to Leland, NC to live with her daughter, Cindy and husband Richard Uhlman.
Dot was preceded in death by first husband, Burleigh Crouch, Sr., second husband LT COL Sammy A. Pierce, brothers Larry, David, and Roger Gibbs and a sister Frances Kerns.
Dot is survived by her brother Jerry Gibbs and wife Attie of Stuart, VA, three children, son, Burleigh Crouch, Jr. and wife Maureen of Kinston, NC, daughters Deb Pierce and husband Rick of Enterprise, AL. and Cindy Uhlman and husband Richard of Leland NC. She is also survived by her step-mother Irene Gibbs of Rocky Mt. VA, step-brother Phillip Gibbs of Hawkinsville, GA, step-sisters Sherry Cameron of Lumberton, NC and Martha Brown of Wirtz VA, 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Also surviving her are 6 stepchildren, Sammy and wife Betty Pierce of Hobe Sound, FL, Richard and wife Deb Pierce of Enterprise, AL, Jeanne Pierce Vogt and husband Tom of Newnan, GA, Doug and wife Carol Pierce of La Place, LA, Nancy Pierce of Ayden, NC and Don Pierce of Port St. Lucie, FL, 11 step-grand children and 4 step-great grand children.
Dot was a devoted volunteer for the Ayden Christian Care Center in Ayden, delivered meals on wheels and was a very active member of the First Baptist Church, Ayden NC.
