Memorial Gifts & Donations

Douglas Elton Keen, 79, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord Saturday, January 23, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

He was born February 4, 1941 in Wilson, NC, the son of Elton and Eula Keen. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Keen, and sisters Joyce Kennedy and Carolyn Mize.

Doug is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda and two sons, Kevin Keen, along with his wife, Genia and Keith Keen. In addition, he was very proud to be “Grandpa” to his two grandsons, Slade and Layton. Along with all of these were several nieces, nephews, and more friends than any man could be fortunate enough to have.

Doug graduated from Rock Ridge High School before serving his country honorably in the US Army. He retired after long dedicated employment to both North Carolina Equipment Company and RW Moore Equipment Company.

Doug enjoyed coaching baseball and basketball and left an indelible impression on his players. He was a faithful member and served as Deacon at both College Acres Baptist Church and Anchor Baptist Church. He also enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

The family will hold a private service that will be held at Anchor Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 27, 2021 with Pastor Jeff Nichols officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests the donations be made to Anchor Baptist Church in honor of Doug.

The family would like to thank the ICU staff at New Hanover Regional Medical Center for their compassionate care of our husband/father.

Mr. Doug was a kind, caring gentleman! He was a hugger that loved people. He told my sister I taught him in the 1st grade jokingly. Of course, that wasn't possible. I was somewhat younger than him but he made us all laugh at Ruth's Kitchen. He may be our earthly loss but Heaven's gain. Love you, Mr. Doug!

Doug was one of the best men that I have ever known. Down to earth, honest, and I always knew where I stood with him. He helped me coach basketball for several years. He kept me in line and let me know when I had been too hard on a kid. My respect for him was always extremely high. He will be greatly missed but I will see him again. God, bless the Keen family and hold them in your arms.
