Dr. Norman Ray Kaylor, Sr., born on March 16, 1933, in Herber Springs, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2024, in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the age of 91.

A veteran of the United States Army, Dr. Kaylor dedicated over twenty-eight years of his life to educating and shaping young minds as a professor at the Cameron School of Business at the University of Wilmington. His passion for education was evident in his long and distinguished career. He played a pivotal role in the establishment of the school of business administration in 1979 and oversaw the construction of Cameron Hall, which stands as a testament to his leadership.

He was a member of the Wilmington Cape Fear Rotary club for the past 34 years and was a reciprocate of the Paul Harris Award.
Dr. Kaylor’s academic journey began with his Undergraduate studies at Middle Tennessee State University and culminated with a Master’s Degree from the University of Georgia and received his PHD from University of Mississippi. He leaves behind a legacy of knowledge and inspiration that will continue to impact future generations.

He loved his time with his family, and loved to travel with his wife visiting many cities and parks around the country and going on cruises. And his longtime friends from Wrightsville Beach United Methodist Church.

Preceded in death by his parents, Glenn Kaylor and Delia Morris Kaylor, his beloved wife of over sixty years, Betty Jo Russell Kaylor, and his daughter, Beth, Joyce Elizabeth Kaylor, Dr. Kaylor is survived by his son, Norman Ray Kaylor, Jr., and wife, M.L. Bagwell of Marble, NC; his sister, Bette Widner of Tuscaloosa, AL; numerous nieces and nephews, and a special pet dog named “Oliver.”

A celebration of Dr. Kaylor’s wonderful life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in honor of his life to the University of North Carolina Wilmington Scholarship Fund.
