Earl Denver Higginbotham, 81, went to be with the Lord Saturday, January 28, 2012 at his home on Oak Island after a short illness.
Denver was born December 29, 1930 at Grimms Landing, W. V. to J. E. and Ada Esther Craig Higginbotham.
Denver was preceded in death by brothers, Ernest and Harold, sister Helen H, Herdman and granddaughter, Megan Adair Higginbotham. He is survived by wife, June; son David E. Higginbotham (Julie) of Lindenhurst, IL; daughter, Nancy H. Green (John) of Chattanooga, TN; four grandchildren, Tommy, Sarah Jane and Jack Green of Chattanooga, TN, and Madison Higginbotham of Lindenhurst, IL; brother, Kenneth Higginbotham (Anita) of Buffalo, WV.
Denver proudly served his country with the US Air Force in Korea and with the 438th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Kinross Air Force Base in Michigan. He was a retired agent with State Farm Insurance Co. in Charleston, WV for 28 years. Denver was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oak Island where he was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher and took several mission trips working with the Disaster and Feeding Team. He was a former member of First Baptist Church of Nitro, WV where he was Boy Scout Master for several years, and a former member of First Baptist Church of St. Albans, WV where he was a Deacon and served on several boards.
Denver had many interests, was a gifted mechanic, and could start or work on any engine. He flew his own plane and built his own ultra-lite. Denver made several musical instruments and taught himself to play the guitar and keyboard. He enjoyed metal detecting, hunting, fishing and having breakfast with his friends at McDonalds.
Denver studied at West Coast University, WV University, and was a graduate of WV State University. He lived a life of service to the Lord he loved and dearly loved his family and friends.
Memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Oak Island, 4608 Oak Island Drive, Oak Island, NC on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be an hour before the service with Pastor Charlie Carter officiating.
