Earlie Overton Carroll

Earlie “Earl” Overton Carroll, Jr., 71, of Wilmington, NC, passed peacefully on Monday, April 11, 2011 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter.

He was born on June 25, 1939 in Wilmington, NC, the son of the late Earlie Overton Carroll, Sr. and Arlene Ellis Perritt.

He diligently served in the US Army in both the State and Germany. After his discharge from the military, he began his occupation in the heating and air conditioning industry. This career path led him to Riegelwood, NC where he was employed by Federal/International Paper and retired after twenty-four years of service. He was presently employed by Regent Security.

Dedicated to his family and friends, Earl could always be counted on in times of need. He was happiest when he had a fishing rod in one hand and a grandkid in the other. His hilarious stories and jokes captivated all who had an open ear. PawPaw Carroll’s one of a kind laugh and cheerful smile provided comfort and joy to all.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy Joyner Carroll; three children, Earl Carroll, Lydia Horne and husband Mark, and Jackie Edwards, all of Wilmington, NC; four grandchildren, Tiffany Edwards, Lauren Horne, Carson Horne and Meagan Edwards; and one sister, Martha Watts.

He was predeceased by his sister, Wilhemina McCarthy.
