Edith S. Sims

Edith Sedwick Sims peacefully completed her 94 year journey on Wednesday March, 7, 2018, with her loving family surrounding her.

Edie was born in Evanston, Illinois, spent summers in Wisconsin, and graduated in Chemistry from the University of Arkansas, where she was an enthusiastic Chi Omega. She married Neil Sims, and they moved to Annapolis, Maryland where Neil   began  his private practice in pediatrics and she launched her 30+ year career as an elementary level teacher, along with raising her four sons. Many of her students remained in contact into their adult years.

After retirement, she moved to Wilmington in 1973. Through the years she has always been a fanatical sports fan, rooting loudly for her  Razorbacks, Terps, Tarheels, and her beloved Orioles. She loved cooking, needlework, her dogs, and the beach (especially picnics at the Yacht Club)  She  was a comedian with a natural wit and could stand toe to toe with anyone in playful banter.

Edie is now with her sons Neil and Steve, along with her parents, Herb and Elizabeth Sedwick and her sister, Marian Harriss.  Left  to cherish her rich, funny memories are her sons David , Geoff (Leslie), her sisters Ann Martin (Stan), Sally Sedgwick (Dean), her grandchildren: Neil, Mark, Mary, Stephanie, Jennifer, Allison, Dustin, and great grandchildren: Neil, Sabrina, Brayden, Reiner, Blake, Camden, Alex, and Alyvia. “Mommo”  had such a depth of love for  her entire family. She will continue to be carried in all of our hearts.

The family is especially grateful to the Bluewater Bay Staff at Trinity Grove for their exceptional care and comfort.

The Celebration of Edie’s life will be at 10 AM, Saturday, March 17, at St James Episcopal Church , 25 S 3 rd  Street, Wilmington, NC . with The Reverend Ron Abrams  officiating.  Committal at Oleander Gardens will be immediately followed by visitation at the home of Leslie and Geoff Sims, 205 Bretonshire Rd., Wilmington , NC

Geoff, David, and Neil, so sorry to hear about your mother/grandmother. It was always nice to see her Honda parked in my mother's driveway. "The gals" had a good time. Edie was like family to my entire family. She is truly going to be missed.

She had the most wonderful sense of humor; and always a story to tell--A smile comes when I think of her--

Edie was the best! I knew Edie from working at MI seasonally for many years. I loved her quick, dry wit. I have seen Edie over the last few months when visiting my mother. I enjoyed speaking with her when I’d see her. All of you are in my prayers for comfort in your grief and sorrow.
