Edna Louise Moncrief, 76 , died Thursday, February 28, 2013 at The Commons at Brightmore in Wilmington, NC surrounded by her family.

She was born on November 20, 1936 in Butler, TN, daughter of the late Kermit R. Reece and Bonnie Reynolds.

Edna spent much of her childhood at Grandfather Children’s Home in Banner Elk, NC, which paved the path for her to be a wonderful wife and mother. She touched everyone she met with her kindness and soft nature. She was always supportive of her family’s choices and showed unconditional love for anyone who entered our lives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Edward S.
Moncrief and brother Joseph E.Reece of Chesapeake, MD.

She is survived by two sons, James Ellis Moncrief and wife Katrina of Leland, NC and John Edward Moncrief of Wilmington, sister Ruth Smedley of Hixson, TN and step-sister Amanda Spencer of Ringgold, GA. and many loving neices and nephews.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, a generous donation be made to the MSGT E.S. Moncrief Military Dependents Scholarship at UNC Wilmington c/o UNCW-Moncrief Military Scholarship, 601 S. College Rd., Wilmington, NC 28403

A memorial service for friends and family to remember Edna and Eddie will be announced in the future.

    Jamie, John and Katrina I am so sorry for your loss. Aunt Edna was a great lady and a wonderful aunt. I will always remember her talent in the kitchen. When visiting us in Ohio she would make her fried shrimp and hush puppies. She was so special and I will have many memories of our time together. Love you all.
