Edward Carl Wagner, 85, died on Sunday June 24, 2012 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice & Life Care Center in Wilmington following a brief illness.

Born and raised in the Ridgewood neighborhood of New York City, the son of John and Maria Wagner, he lived in New York throughout his working life.

Upon graduating from high school Edward joined the Army and was involved in amphibious operations in the Philippines during the latter stages of World War II. After leaving the service he attended New York University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering. For many years he worked for the New York City Port Authority.

Edward spent his retirement years in the Boiling Spring Lakes area of Southport, North Carolina pursuing his lifelong interests of reading, current affairs and classic cinema.

He was predeceased by his brother and sister, John William Wagner and Katherine Wagner Kaufman. Edward is survived by his niece and nephew, Christine Wagner Price and John Gregory Wagner, and many close friends in North Carolina.
