Elaine Susan Staebell

Elaine Susan Staebell  “Susie”, 62, of Leland, NC, passed away at her home on Wednesday, November 29, 2017. She was predeceased by her parents, Neal and June Kilian. She is survived by her son, Alex James Staebell of Leland, NC, and her daughter Katie (Charles) Lowry of Raleigh,NC; her brothers, Leslie (Yvonne) Kilian of Canandaigua, NY, and Larry (Carol) Kilian of Blasdell, NY; her significant other, Don Ruttan, and his family. She is also survived by loving nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Sue also leaves behind an extended family who is very heartbroken at her passing. She was more than just family, she was a friend. She will be missed dearly by Harold and Ina Ruttan, Jennie and James Shurtzer, Elizabeth Perez, and Renee Gopar; and their children and great grandchildren.

Sue was an incredibly loving and kind person. She loved people and never hesitated to make friends wherever she went. She was a wonderful baker and cook, who previously co-owned and operated the Maco Truck Stop in Leland, NC, and also continued on to work in food service. She loved to sit at her kitchen table and complete crossword puzzles while her dog, Gracie, laid on her feet. Her love of music included playing the guitar and the trumpet, and her children fondly remember her singing while playing for them while they were young.

She was dearly loved by all who knew her and she will forever remain in our hearts. We cherish our time with her.

A service of celebration and remembrance will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, December 3rd, at the Village Road Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Cancer Society by visiting www.tmcfunding.com.

Susie and I spent a lot of wonderful early years together. My teenage years were made special because she was my friend. She will always have a piece of my heart.

She was more than a first cousin. She was my sister and friend. We used to cruise the streets of Perry, NY when I bought my first car. Such fun times. Susie, fly with the angels! You will be missed by many.

Had a lot of fun and laughs with Susie when we were younger, not to mention that her family and my family were always together. She was a kind hearted lady and I will cherish the great memories that I have. Rest In Peace Susie.

    John Sonnenfeld says:
Dear Alex, Katie, and family... I am so very sorry to learn about your loss of Elaine. Fortunately, death is only a temporary part of life. Jesus promised us a wonderful resurrection of the dead (John 5:28,29/1 Thessalonians 4:13, 14), so we have the hope of being reunited with our deceased loved ones. In the meantime, even though the pain of loss through death may sometimes seem insurmountable, rest assured that God will give you the strength necessary to endure the coming months (Psalm 46:1). Please accept my deepest sympathy and sincere condolences…. John
