Eleanor Newsome McCandless, 95, of Wilmington died April 16, 2012 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter.

She was born August 1, 1916, in Princeton, North Carolina, the daughter of the late William Council and Jeanette Augusta Adkins Newsome. She moved to Wilmington in 1942, and was a charter member of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Jeanette (Jenny) Johnston, and husband Steve, and grandson Ian.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at Greenlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Harold Manning officiating.

Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.

    Jenny and family, Thinking about you and sending my love and sympathy. It's always hard when we loose our parents. Please know that I care and am sorry for your pain and sorrow. Your Mon was the very last of that generation in our family. I guess that leaves our generation to carry on. Sure hope we are up to the task.
