Elgie Jones of Leland, born July 10, 1932 went to be with his Lord and Savior surrounded by his family on Sunday, August 27,2017.

He is survived by his  loving wife of 65 years Marie Inman Jones, three daughters  Patty Jones, Emily Spencer and husband Tony, Lynn Hall and husband Hodgie and five  grandchildren April Ramsey and husband Finn, Nicole Yates and husband William, Tiffany Hall Antosek, Nicholas Spencer, and Marcus Spencer and wife Kaylla. His legacy continues with 7 great grand children and 3 great great grandchildren. He is preceded in death 2 sisters Pearlie May Jones Mintz, Pauline Jones Benton.  He is survived by his sister Edna Jones Bass, and brother D.L Jones.

Elgie was a prominent member of his community serving as a member of his local church, Elah Baptist Church and a life long member of First Baptist church of Leland. Elgie served his country proudly with 26 years in the US Army Reserve and 42 years in the National Guard. He was retired from the ILA Local 1766 Clerks and Checkers Union. He was also an active member of St. Johns Lodge #1 AF&AM, Cape Fear Chapter #346 Order of Eastern Star and Sudan Shriners. He served in his community many years on the North Brunswick Sanitary district, Unity Group of North Brunswick, Brunswick County Ombud and served as Deacon of his local church. His community efforts also included helping with the Incorporation process. His love for his family and his church were great and his life reflected Gods love for us all. His infectious smile and life could light up any room. He will be loved and truly missed and now he is smiling with his Savior.

The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Tuesday at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation Village Road Chapel in Leland.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Elah Baptist Church 1527 Old Fayetteville Road NE, Leland, NC 28451. Burial will be at First Baptist Church of Leland Cemetery. Clergy will be Rev. Kenneth Long and Rev. James Buchanan. Pallbearers will include Finn Ramsey, William Yates, Marcus Spencer, Robbie Ramsey, Ryan Ramsey, and Jaxson Yates.
