Ocean Isle – Mr. Eli Earl Smith, II, 60 of Ocean Isle died Tuesday, March 10, 2015 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center in Wilmington.

Eli was born in Fort Jackson, South Carolina on July 24, 1954. He is the son of Eli Earl Smith and the late Gialda Grey Cashwell Smith. Mr. Smith retired as a manager of the Employment Security Commission; he also was a avid sportsman that loved the outdoors.

Eli is survived by his father, Eli Earl Smith of Missouri: one son, Richard “Rick “ Quintanilla of Andover, Ohio.

A private service will be at a later date.

    I was very saddened to learn of Eli's death when I read my recent UNCW magazine. I knew Eli when I was a student at UNCW and he was a really great guy. We shard a political science class and became friends. He was always kind and friendly. A wonderful man has died much too young.
