Elizabeth Hardin Harrington Smith

Elizabeth Harrington Smith, age 67, of Carolina Beach, NC, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022. She was born June 25, 1955 in Wilmington, NC, the second child of Charles M Harrington Jr. and Audrey Strong Harrington (both now deceased.)

She graduated from New Hanover High School in 1973 and later graduated from UNC-Wilmington with a degree in computer science. She worked several jobs as a computer engineer, including at General Electric where she met her husband of 31 years, Daniel Smith. She loved her pets, being a mentor to her friends, and taking long walks on the beach where she would commune with God. Elizabeth was a caring person, dedicated to her belief in God and desire to share her faith with others. She taught several bible studies in her life and spent time prior to marriage and children studying at a bible college and engaging in outreach programs. She was a member of the Carolina Beach Island Women’s group and maintained friendships with lifelong friends by whom she will be greatly missed.

Elizabeth (Liz) is survived by her husband Daniel W. Smith, her daughter Audrey Hardin Doss (husband Solomon), her step-children Jennifer Handschuh (husband Richmond) and Marlian Smith (wife Gabriel), her siblings Charles M Harrington III (wife Mary) and Mary Ellen Harrington Batts (husband Johnny), her grandchildren Chase, Summer, Landon, Daniel, Justin, Emma, Caleb, and David, and all her beloved nieces and nephews. We are saddened by her passing, however we are glad to know that she was a believer in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and will have her place in Heaven.

A time of visitation will be held on Friday, August 5, 2022 from 1:00PM till 2:00PM at Wilmington Funeral Chapel, with a graveside service to be held at 2:15PM, at Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Elizabeth was someone I admired greatly. Her love for Jesus Christ and others was heart swelling. No matter what that woman was going through, her thoughts were always on how she could spread the word of God and better someone else. She was a prayer warrior, a great friend and an amazing mother in Christ to me. Until we meet again my beautiful Liz. You are missed but never forgotten. I love you beyond words and all the glitz and glamor of this world. Until then...

Dear Dan, Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your beautiful wife, Elizabeth. While I never met Elizabeth, you and I have met briefly a couple of times over the 40 years that I have been affiliated with Sea Colony. As a result of experiencing you from afar, I know how wonderful, kind, and sincere your wife of over 31 years must have been and how devastating must be. There is nothing I can say to assuage your deep grief. I only wish you strength and perseverance at this time and may god bless you and your family. Foster F. Fountain III - 27B

Dear Dan , If there was one thing I can say about Elizabeth it was the way she looked at you & the way you looked at her, it was beautiful and pure. When you both entered a room together it was powerful and beautiful to see the longevity of how much you loved each other. Our prayers are with you and your family during this time. We understand the love a husband & wife share and how beautiful that love is for eachother in life and in heaven. May that love you shared ,carry you forward and forever. May God send his comforting presence to envelope you with peace and strength. Crystal & Scott Burton
