Elizabeth Sue Brown, age 80 of Wilmington passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2019, at the Lower Cape Hospice and LifeCareCenter.

Sue was born in Wilmington on September 27, 1938, to Jason William Avant and Dora Pickett Avant. She was a graduate of New Hanover High School and worked for Southern Bell as an operator for 7 years and later worked in retail sales, including Best Products Store for 17 years. She was involved with many local beauty pageants for over 20 years and served as the Director of the Teen Miss Wilmington Pageant for many years.

Sue is survived by her husband of 62 years James R. Brown; three children, Russ Brown (Frances), Pam Caulk (Duke), and Jason Brown; two grandchildren Megan Caulk and Cody Caulk; and two great-grandchildren, Owen Caulk, and Jaxson Williams. She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Jimmy and Larry Avant.

The family will see friends from 6 to 8 pm Monday, April 15, 2019, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel.

Funeral service will be 11 am Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at the graveside in Greenlawn Memorial Park officiated by Rev. Doug Faulk.
