Ellen Glover Nye

Ellen Stewart (Glover) Nye, 85, of Brightmore, died peacefully in the presence of her family in Wilmington, NC on Thursday, August 9, 2007. Born in Wilmington, she was the daughter of the late Francis L. and Mable N. Glover and step mother Cornelia B. Glover. Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Robert D. Nye, CDR USN and her son Robert D. Nye, Jr.

Mrs. Nye was a graduate of New Hanover High School in Wilmington and graduated from Maryland College for Women before marrying then Ensign Nye, a graduate of the United States Naval Academy. Following her husbands career at a number of duty stations, the family settled in Rhode Island.

Ellen enjoyed golf and tennis for most of her life. In recent years she had become a bridge player and played regularly up to her very sudden illness. Ellen was a loving mother, grandmother and friend to many. She enjoyed traveling with trips rafting through the Grand Canyon, Egypt and Russia.

Ellen is survived by her children, Shirley N. Rennick of North Kingstown, RI, Patricia N. Cecchini of Waterford, CT, and David T. Nye of Spokane, WA., 4 grandchildren and a great grandson.

Ellen’s wish was for a private service.
