Elwood Ray Howard, 62 of Hampstead passed away Wednesday, March 14, 2012.

A memorial service will be conducted 4 pm Saturday, March 17, 2012 at Topsail Presbyterian Church officiated by Pastor Owen Carriker.

In lieu of flowers memorials should be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter.

    Ray made me feel special to him... something about the way he always greeted me and called me 'cuz'. But I have an idea that everyone of Ray's friends felt special, because I think he had that knack, that way about him that made us all feel special. Possibly we all were? Ray seemed so simple, so... well...so "salt of the earth", but in reality, Ray was a man of the world. In his earlier days, Ray had been out and around. He had seen the world, good & bad and after seeing it, he had chosen to come home.. to his home, to his people, his family and his church. Ray found his Lord and Savior too, several years ago, and to those of us who knew him for a long time, well, we knew he had. Ray was full of love for the Lord and it was so evident in the way he handled himself, the way he treated people and the way he endured the final weeks of his life. I am so proud of Ray for the way his life turned out. And my guess would be that a lot of others feel the same way. An inspiration! Rest in Peace, "Cuz"! David
