Ernestine ” Tina ” Catherine Gibbs of Leland, NC, and formerly of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2013, at the age of 68, after a 6 month battle with lung cancer.

Mrs. Gibbs was born on July 22, 1945, in Yonkers, NY, to the late Louis and Mary Bianco. Ernestine graduated in 1963 from Preston High School in the Bronx and studied liberal arts at Bronx Community College. She also studied dental hygiene for a few years and worked at a practice in Manhattan. A few years after getting married in 1971, she became a stay at home mom until the mid 90s. She went back to work in the medical field for 10 years before retiring to the beach with her husband Robert. She enjoyed traveling with friends and family, reading, bowling, cards and crocheting. She was very involved in her Westport community and also in events in the area. She was best known for her sweet, loving, caring heart and she will greatly be missed.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert “Bob” Gibbs; sons, Jonathan and Joseph Gibbs; daughter, Jennifer and husband, Mark; and her granddaughter, Samantha. She is also survived by her brother, Michael, and wife, Josephine, nieces, Joanne (and Jerry) Demarco, Michele (and Roy) Heckmann, nephew, Louis Bianco and great nieces. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Barbara and husband, John Turpie; nephews, Michael (and Monica) and Jonathan (and Donna) Turpie, and great nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank all our family and friends and the entire staff at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCareCenter for their love and support over the last week. The family will receive friends from 5-8pm on Wednesday, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel.
