WILMINGTON – Ethel Ball Sheehan, 95, of Wilmington passed away peacefully October 25, 2012 at The Lower Cape Fear Hospice Life Center.

She was born December 12, 1916, in New Bern, NC, and was the daughter of John and Mary Gilbert Ball.

Mrs. Sheehan worked as a federal employee in Washington, DC, during World War II. After the war, she moved with her husband to Wilmington, NC where she was a devoted mother and homemaker.

She was a member of St Mark Catholic Church and for many years volunteered her time and creativity designing floral arrangements to beautify the church and sanctuary. In conjunction with her floral design expertise she incorporated her passion for cooking and organization and became a noted and sought after caterer.

Mrs. Sheehan loved to entertain, not only for her family but for many of her friends. She made her home warm and welcome by adding her own custom designed draperies and shared that business with others. Her yard and garden is an exquisite show piece, her pride and joy and loved sharing it with everyone.

Mrs. Sheehan is survived by her husband of 69 years, John Sheehan, Sr. of the home; son, Michael (Mike) Sheehan and wife Lynda of Wilmington; granddaughter Jennifer Glickman and husband Jamie of Chapel Hill, NC; grandson Tyler Davis and wife Nitzi of New York, NY; daughter-in-law Carrie Sheehan Worthington and husband Steve of Garden City, SC. Mrs. Sheehan was predeceased by a son John (Jack) Sheehan, Jr.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, November 1, at 2:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Wilmington.
