Ethel Jane Burns (Essie) went to be with her Lord on Monday April 26, 2010 after a long illness.

She was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on December 18, 1925. Her mother was Ethel Prior Williams and her father was Willard Stadden Williams.

Essie was a graduate of Stuart Hall, Staunton, Virginia, and Haskell Junior College, Auburndale, Massachusetts. For many years, she was active in the Cape Fear Garden Club and the St. Anne’s Guild of the St. James Episcopal Church.

She is survived by a cousin, Scott A. Williams, of Laporte, Pennsylvania.

A member of the St. James Episcopal Church since 1990, she will be remembered in a memorial service and inurnment there at 9:00 A.M. on Saturday May 22, 2010 in the St. Francis Garden.

Donations may be made to the New Hanover County Humane Society or the St. James Episcopal Church.
