Memorial Gifts & Donations

Eugene Ohlson Collins, son, brother and friend to all passed away suddenly in his home on February 14, 2023. Eugene was born on October 23, 1994 in New Haven, Connecticut. He grew up in Wilmington, North Carolina with his mother, Anne and sister, Ali.

Eugene had many great loves – his family and friends, his Great Dane, Doobie, his art, and the ocean. It is no secret that he was his happiest when he was surfing. The joy when he caught each wave was abundant and the smile on his face was contagious. He took this passion to the next level when he majored in Chemistry at University of North Carolina at Wilmington with a focus in marine science. His goal was to keep water safe for the future children who sought out solace in the ocean the same way he had.

Eugene battled addiction from a young age, but this did not define him. He was a loyal friend, son and brother who loved fiercely. He would like to be remembered as the friend who put others needs before his own, the son who sat with his mom on the beach for hours, and the brother who protected his sister. He is survived by his sister, Alison (age 25) and preceded in death by his mother, Anne.

There are no services planned at this time.

Ali, I’ve never been fortunate enough to meet you, but I was a friend of Eugene’s when we were a bit younger. I took him and his two friends, Stephen and Aaron to Las Vegas with me on a road trip. Despite his struggles, Eugene was always a genuine and kind soul. His smile was contagious and his heart was full of love. I’m so terribly sorry for your loss. If you would ever like to connect and chat, please reach out. Wishing for peace for you and yours.
