Evadene Mahaffey Cothren, 79, of Wilmington, passed away Friday, February 7, 2014, at her residence.
Mrs. Cothren was born in Greensboro, NC, to the late Webster Mahaffey and Pansy Mitchell Mahaffey. She was proud to be from the first graduating class of Wilkes Central High School, class of 1953. She was also a member of Winter Park Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and later worked in the clothing retail business. She was a member of the Babies Hospital Auxiliary, serving as President from 1971-1973.
Her family knew her to be a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and she had a deep devotion to her friends. Her faith followed her through all areas of her life. In addition to her parents, she was preceded by death by her brother, Ronnie Mahaffey.
Survivors include two sons, Alan Cothren of Wilmington, Tony Cothren and wife, Sharon, of Raleigh; one daughter, Gloria C. Jordan and husband, John, of Carrboro NC; one brother, Harold Mahaffey, of Raleigh; seven grandchildren, April Harriman, Dana Stewart, John D. Jordan, Will Jordan, Trevor Cothren, Jeremy Cothren, and Aaron Deal; five great-grandchildren, Noel Harriman, Avery Harriman, Lily Harriman, Hunter Stewart, and Wyatt Stewart.
There will be a memorial service at 2 PM, Friday, February 14, 2014, at Winter Park Baptist Church. The family will receive friends and family at 1 PM, Friday, at Winter Park Baptist Church.
