Evelyn Elizabeth “Beth” Baird

Evelyn Elizabeth “Beth” Baird, age 88 of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of December 14, 2022.

Beth was born on February 26, 1934 to the late Ralph L. and Thelma Field in Tecumseh, Michigan. She was married to the late Neville “Sparky” Baird in 1953, and together they had 7 children – six boys and one girl. After starting her family, she returned to complete her education and graduated from Bedford Highschool in Temperance, Michigan. In 1973, the Baird family moved to North Carolina, where Beth enjoyed her career with the United States Postal Service. She was proud to be the very first female letter carrier in Wrightsville Beach, NC.

After retirement her favorite role was being Grandma (also known lovingly as Grammer) to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would drop anything she was doing at any moment to help out her kids, grandkids, or any relative. She enjoyed tennis and working outside in her garden. She loved yellow roses and often talked about how much joy she felt when her “Lady Banks” rose bloomed. She was also a long-time parishioner at the Basilica Shrine of Saint Mary Catholic Church in Wilmington, NC, and witnessed many baptisms, first communions, and weddings of her dear loved ones.

Beth is survived by her children, Mitch, Greg, Andrew, and Martin Baird, and Jennifer Pfeiffer; her grandchildren Amanda Connor (Greg), Elizabeth Cardamone (Christian), Austin Baird, Eli Baird, Amber Marie Baird, Nathan Cameron Baird, Cara Baird, and Scout Baird; several great grandchildren, and many other extended family members and friends who love her dearly and will deeply miss her. In addition to her parents, Beth is preceded in death by her husband Neville “Sparky” Baird, her sons Bradley Baird and Alan Jeffrey Baird, and her sister Jacqueline “Jackie” Bonfigilo.

There will be a Memorial Service for Beth on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at 11:00am at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation – Wilmington Chapel. All are welcome to attend and encouraged to share fond memories of Beth.
