Fannie Stewart Pate, 84, of Wilmington died Monday February 2, 2009 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.

Fannie was born in New Hanover County October 26, 1924 the daughter of the late George Thomas and Evalena Johnson Stewart, and is predeceased by her husband Dwight Pate, Jr. Son D.L Pate,III, grandson James Colvin, brother George Thomas Stewart, Jr., sisters Sarah Lee Peed, Louise Thomas and Vivian Stewart.

Fannie retired from Corning and was a member of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are sons Glenn Pate and wife Patsy of Wilmington, daughters Irene Gray and husband Larry of Rocky Point, Elaine Reynolds and husband John of Houston TX, Joyce Hayden and husband Whit of Wilmington and Laura Petteway of Asheville. Eight Grandchildren, nine Great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted 11:00 A.M Thursday February 5, 2009 at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church with Reverend Harold Manning officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.

The family will see friends Wednesday, February 4, 2009, 6:00 P.M until 8:00 P.M at Wilmington Burial and Cremation Service.

    I wanted to let you all know I am thinking of you. You are never prepared to lose a Mother. Aunt Fannie was one of the kindest and gentlest women I have ever known...not to mention the best cook!!! She will be greatly missed.
