Frank H. Smith, of Wilmington, NC, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017.  He was born in Akron, Ohio on June 28, 1930.  He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Helen Smith, two sisters Mary Ann Highman and Carol Nieman, daughter Julie and nephew Todd Eisenhower. 

He is survived by his wife of 48 years Ruby Smith of Wilmington, NC; three children Jeff Smith (KC) of Coolemee, NC, Linda Clements (Bill) of Matthews, NC and Teresa Morgan of Hampstead, NC; five grandchildren Lauren Smith of Raleigh, Taylor Lee (Greg) of Raleigh, Ted Smith of Greensboro, Chris Lesley of Matthews, NC and Chandra Rice (Chris) of Hampstead, NC; one great grandchild Landon Rice; sister Ellen Eisenhower (Jim) of Arizona; nieces and nephews, Debi, Mark, Mike, Pat, Brooke, Erin, Mark, Laurie, Sue, Morgan,Taylor, Rachel, Avery and Grayson.

He attended Cuyahogan Falls High School and Ohio Northern University.  He also served in the US Army and achieved rank of 2nd Lieutenant.

Frank retired from Duracell after a long career that included assignments in Ohio, NC, Tennessee, SC, Connecticut, and as Plant Manager in Sydney Australia. He had a second retirement at age 80 after working 10 years at Ace Hardware in Hampstead, NC. 

Frank enjoyed all sports.  He was especially fond of  Nascar, football, and golf.  He was an accomplished golfer, softball player, tennis player, and runner- entering his first marathon at age 50. Frank loved traveling with his wife Ruby, enjoyed spending time at the beach, cherished the time spent with his family and caring for his devoted four legged children Apollo, Mocha, and Spike who will miss being at his side.  He enjoyed worshiping at Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church in Scotts Hill.

A Celebration of Life will be held 12 Noon Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. The family will see friends from 11 AM until hour of service.
