Frederick A. “Red” Blohm, age 81, of Wilmington passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2014.

He was born June 12, 1933 in Dumont, New Jersey. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 60 years, Maria E. “Betty” Blohm. Also surviving are three children, Timothy Blohm and wife LuAnne of Sussex, NJ, Eileen Kaynan and husband Alan of Wilmington, NC and Eric Blohm of Virginia Beach, VA; and three grandchildren, Lisa Blohm of Parsippany, NJ, Kristin Kaynan of Wilmington, NC and Adam Kaynan and wife Barbara of New York , NY.

Red was a veteran who proudly served his country in the US Air Force. He worked in the corrugated box and printing die industry in Northern New Jersey for 40 years. Red was also a musician who led his own band, playing in Northern NJ and NY for many years. He loved entertaining people by playing his guitar and regaling audiences with joke and stories. When he and Betty moved to Wilmington in 1998 he began a solo career playing at local nursing homes providing pleasant memories of older music for residents. His interests included crossword puzzles, wood crafts and the New York Yankees. His presence will be missed by family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the Wilmington Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
